Celiz goal lifts Deportivo Riestra to Group B lead

BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Milton Celiz scored in the second half as Deportivo Riestra rose to Argentina's Primera Division Group B summit on Friday with a 1-0 home win over Gimnasia.

Celiz broke the deadlock in the 54th minute by pouncing on a loose ball and lashing a 15-yard volley into the top-right corner.

The visitors controlled almost two thirds of possession and came close to equalizing after halftime but were denied by a series of fine saves from Ignacio Arce.

The result leaves Deportivo Riestra with 19 points from nine outings, one ahead of second-placed River Plate, which has a game in hand.

In San Juan, Manuel Lanzini scored one goal and set up another as Velez Sarsfield edged to a 2-1 away victory over San Martin.

The visitors took the lead through Lanzini, who deftly controlled Isaias Andrada's pass before turning and simultaneously rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Lanzini then turned provider, releasing Dilan Godoy with a slick one-two before the teenage forward slotted a clinical finish past Matias Borgogno.

The hosts pulled one back just before the hour through Ignacio Maestro Puch, who sent a bullet header into the top-right corner following Marcos Iaconellis' corner.

But Velez survived to seal its fifth win in nine games so far this campaign, consolidating third place in Group B. San Martin sits 11th in the 15-team group.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Friday, Racing Club won 2-0 away to Huracan and Lanus won 2-1 at home to Platense.
