De Klassieker stopped after object from crowd hits Ajax player Klaassen-silubaba news

THE HAGUE, April 6 (silubaba) -- De Klassieker between Feyenoord and Ajax in the semifinals of the Dutch Cup was paused for half an hour on Wednesday night in Rotterdam after an object thrown from the crowd hit the head of Ajax player Davy Klaassen.

After a row between some players of the two teams occurred in the second half, Klaassen was hit by an object thrown from the stands, causing blood to pour from his head. Referee Allard Lindhout decided to suspend the match in the 62nd minute. The suspension lasted half an hour.

Dusan Tadic had put Ajax in front in the 14th minute, after which Santiago Gimenez equalized for the home team with a header on the stroke of halftime. Klaassen put Ajax in front again five minutes into the second half.

After the match was resumed, Klaassen was only able to continue for a few minutes, after which he was substituted with head pains.

Feyenoord was not able to bounce back in the remaining half-hour, and Ajax won the match in De Kuip 2-1.

With the victory, Ajax set up a final encounter on April 30 with PSV, who qualified for the Cup final with a 2-1 win at amateur club Spakenburg on Tuesday.

General manager Dennis Kloese afterwards apologized to Klaassen on behalf of Feyenoord. Dutch police later stated that they arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of throwing the object.
