Monagas hold Boca Juniors in Copa Libertadores opener-silubaba news

BUENOS AIRES, April 6 (silubaba) -- Six-time champions Boca Juniors of Argentina began their 2023 Copa Libertadores campaign on Thursday with a goalless away draw with Venezuela's Monagas.

The Buenos Aires giants were dealt a severe blow just before halftime when defender Bruno Valdez was shown a straight red card for a violent challenge on Fernando Basante.

They finished the match with only nine men after Facundo Roncaglia picked up his second yellow card for a bad tackle in the 86th minute.

In Montevideo, Roger Guedes netted a second-half brace to fire Corinthians to a 3-0 away win over Liverpool. Fabian Balbuena was also on the scoresheet for the visitors.

In other Copa Libertadores fixtures on Thursday, Libertad prevailed 1-0 at Atletico Mineiro and Olimpia drew 1-1 at Melgar.
