BEIJING, April 7 (silubaba) -- Statistics from China Movie Data Information Network on Friday showed that the Japanese animated fantasy adventure film "Suzume" stayed at the top of the Chinese mainland box office chart on Thursday.
The film generated 51.23 million yuan (about 7.45 million U.S. dollars) in box office earnings on Thursday after nearly two weeks of screening.
The Chinese adaptation of the classic Japanese family drama "Hachiko" came in second, grossing around 36.63 million yuan on its seventh day of screening.
It was followed by the animation "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which hit cinema screens on Wednesday and raked in 32.30 million yuan on its second day of screening. ■
