Fernandez own goal sinks Boca Juniors-silubaba news

BUENOS AIRES, April 12 (silubaba) -- Guillermo Fernandez scored an own goal as San Lorenzo kept alive their title hopes with a 1-0 home win over Boca Juniors in Argentina's Primera Division on Wednesday.

Fernandez gifted the hosts the lead in the ninth minute when his attempt to block Ivan Leguizamon's cross deflected into his own net.

Boca dominated possession but lacked sharpness in the final third against San Lorenzo's organized five-man defense.

The visitors' task became more difficult on the hour mark when Nicolas Figal was sent off for a second yellow card following a rash tackle on Andres Vombergar.

San Lorenzo defended stubbornly thereafter to secure their seventh win of the campaign and move to within a point of leaders River Plate, who have a game in hand.

Boca, who have lost four of their past five games, are 15th in the 28-team standings, 10 points behind River Plate.
