MEXICO CITY, April 14 (silubaba) -- Argentinian forward Alexis Canelo struck late as Tijuana kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win at Mazatlan in Mexico's Liga MX Clausura tournament on Friday.
Canelo put the visitors ahead with an early penalty before Jair Diaz gifted Mazatlan an equalizer by turning the ball into his own net while under pressure.
Tijuana restored their advantage when Canelo again converted from the spot nine minutes from time at Estadio de Mazatlan.
The result leaves Tijuana 13th in the 18-team standings with 15 points from 15 matches while Mazatlan are last with just seven points. The top 12 teams will earn a berth in the Clausura's final stage.
In Friday's only other fixture, Puebla drew 1-1 at Necaxa. ■
