LIMA, April 15 (silubaba) -- China's Wang Zhilin took the women's 10m air rifle gold in her first ISSF World Cup in Lima, Peru on Saturday.
The 19-year-old made her World Cup debut on Friday in the mixed team event, but ranked only 14th in the qualification paired with Olympic champion Yang Haoran.
Adjusting her form, Wang finished fourth with 630 points in the women's qualification, which was led by her compatriot Han Jiayu with 633.4. She improved to top of the ranking match with 262.8 points, followed by Hungary's 20-year-old Eszter Meszaros.
Han, on the other hand, failed to hold on to her 0.2-point lead before the final series and lost the bronze medal to Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway.
In the gold medal match between two young shooters, Wang displayed great stability, making only one shot below 10.4 and took her maiden World Cup victory 17-9 over Meszaros.
In the men's 10m air rifle competition, Zalan Pekler of Hungary added another gold to his mixed team triumph on Friday, beating Japanese two-time Olympian Naoya Okada 16-10 in the final duel. The bronze went to Jiri Privratsky of the Czech Republic, who edged Yang by 0.1 point.
The Lima World Cup will have the penultimate match day on Sunday with women's 25m pistol and 50m rifle 3 positions matches to be staged. ■
