RIO DE JANEIRO, April 19 (silubaba) -- Pedro scored two first-half goals as Brazil's Flamengo stepped up their Copa Libertadores title defense with a 2-0 home victory over Chilean side Nublense on Wednesday.
The Brazil international striker netted the opener by volleying home from close range after Marinho's curling free-kick from the right flank.
The pair combined again just before halftime as Marinho found Pedro on the edge of the 18-yard box after some chaotic Nublense defending. The former Fiorentina player then wrong-footed his marker before lashing an angled 18-yard drive into the bottom left corner.
The result leaves Flamengo second in Group A with three points from two matches while Nublense are last, having yet to pick up a point.
In other Copa Libertadores fixtures on Wednesday, Nacional won 2-1 at Independiente Medellin, Argentinos Juniors won 1-0 at Corinthians, River Plate romped to a 4-1 home win over Corinthians, Colo-Colo 1 Monagas 0 and Barcelona prevailed 2-1 at Bolivar. ■
