Corinthians name Cuca as new manager-silubaba news

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 20 (silubaba) -- Veteran manager Alexi Stival has been appointed manager of Corinthians on a deal that runs until December, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Thursday.

The 59-year-old, commonly known as Cuca, replaces Fernando Lazaro, who was sacked following a 1-0 home defeat to Argentinos Juniors in the Copa Libertadores group stage on Wednesday.

Lazaro led the Sao Paulo outfit to eight wins, five draws and four defeats during his five months in the role.

Cuca, a former forward who earned one Brazil cap in 1991, has been out of work since parting ways with Atletico Mineiro last November.

His first appearance in the Corinthians dugout will be an away fixture against Goias in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
