Blaszczykowski retires from Poland national team-silubaba news

WARSAW, April 27 (silubaba) -- The Polish Football Association announced on Thursday that Jakub Blaszczykowski will retire from the Poland national team.

The former Poland captain, who played 108 games for the national team, participated in two UEFA Euros and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The 37-year-old winger has remained out of the game after he ruptured his knee ligaments but he is already close to returning to the pitch.

The Polish Football Association officially informed on Thursday that former Borussia Dortmund player will retire from the Poland national team. The friendly game against Germany scheduled for June 6 in Warsaw will be his farewell match.

"It was a secret, but I called him some time ago. He admitted that he dreamed about saying goodbye to the fans. In consequence, as an association we will obviously give him that possibility. The game against Germany will be his last appearance in the national team," Polish Football Association president Cezary Kulesza claimed.

Blaszczykowski, who won two Bundesliga titles, one German Cup and three German Supercups with Borussia, remains one of the most titled players in Poland's history.
