Boselli fires Estudiantes to fifth in Argentine top flight-silubaba news

BUENOS AIRES, April 28 (silubaba) -- Veteran striker Mauro Boselli scored one goal and set up another as Estudiantes rose to fifth in Argentina's Primera Division standings with a 2-1 away victory over Platense on Thursday.

The 37-year-old former Argentina international provided the pass for Mauro Mendez's opener in the third minute, before latching onto Leonardo Godoy's cross to head in his team's second goal just after the half hour.

Vicente Taborda reduced the deficit with a low effort on the stroke of halftime, but Estudiantes defended resolutely thereafter to secure their third straight league victory.

Eduardo Dominguez's men now have 24 points from 14 games, nine points fewer than leaders River Plate. Platense are 15th in the 28-team standings, seven points further back.

In Thursday's only other fixture, Godoy Cruz drew 1-1 at Sarmiento.
