Cano nets hat-trick as Fluminense sink River Plate in Copa Libertadores-silubaba news

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 2 (silubaba) -- German Cano struck a hat-trick as Fluminense romped to a 5-1 home victory over River Plate in their Copa Libertadores Group D match here on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old opened the scoring in the 29th minute at the Maracana stadium when he combined with Keno before rifling a shot into the top-left corner.

Lucas Beltran equalized shortly afterwards by blasting home from inside the six-yard box following Nicolas de la Cruz's corner.

Cano restored the Brazilian side's lead with a close-range finish after Samuel Xavier's pass.

The Argentine giants were reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute when Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was shown a second yellow card for a bad foul on Cano.

Jhon Arias extended the hosts' lead with a 75th-minute strike, and Cano made it 4-1 by latching onto an Arias cross and firing first time into the bottom-left corner.

Arias completed the rout in stoppage time as he capitalized on poor defending by surging into the box and angling a shot into the far corner.

Fluminense now have three wins from as many matches while River have one victory and two losses.
