WARSAW, May 7 (silubaba) -- Urawa Red Diamonds' Polish coach Maciej Skorza, who led the team to triumph in the AFC Champions League on Saturday, expressed his immense pride after achieving the greatest success of his career.
"I'd like to pay tribute to our fans, as they did a great job in the stands. I'm thrilled we won the cup for them. I feel incredibly proud. To be honest, it's difficult to find words to describe all my emotions," the 51-year-old coach told Polish media on Sunday.
Thanks to an own goal from Andre Carrillo in the second leg of the 2022 AFC Champions League final, Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds edged Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal 1-0, lifting the title with a 2-1 aggregate win at Saitama Stadium on Saturday.
After scoring the opener, Urawa's players focused on defending.
"I would have liked to play more offensively, but we had to maintain a solid defense," Skorza said.
"It would have been better if we could have kept the ball longer, but after a 1-1 away draw, we didn't want to take too many risks. The goal was to win the trophy," the Pole added. ■
