RIO DE JANEIRO, May 7 (silubaba) -- Victor Sa and Matheus Nascimento scored either side of halftime as Botafogo kept their perfect record intact with a 2-0 home win over Atletico Mineiro in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday.
Sa opened the scoring with a wonderful backheel flick on the half-hour mark after Leonel Di Placido's cross from the right flank.
Nascimento doubled the advantage on the hour by firing home after a scramble on the edge of the six-yard box.
The result at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Stadium means Botafogo now have 12 points from four games, two points more than second-placed Palmeiras. Atletico Mineiro are 15th in the 20-team standings with four points.
In Goiania, Palmeiras scored four second-half goals to romp to a 5-0 win over Goias.
Artur Guimaraes put the visitors ahead with a 10th-minute strike before Sidimar, Raphael Veiga, Endrick Felipe and Dudu added second-half goals as Palmeiras clinched their third win in four games.
Elsewhere, Cuiaba won 2-1 at America Mineiro, Bahia secured a 3-1 home victory over Coritiba, Sao Paulo prevailed 2-0 at home to Internacional, Athletico Paranaense won 2-1 at home to Flamengo and Gremio were held to a goalless home draw by Bragantino. ■
