BERLIN, May 9 (silubaba) -- Happy times seem a thing of the past for Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner.
Several media reports speak of the 48-year-old's departure after the current season despite his contract running until 2024 due to disagreements with the club's leaders over the squad's quality.
The Austrian's one-game ban in the upcoming Bundesliga encounter against Mainz 05 seems to fit the low mood.
The Frankfurt coach received a punishment after kicking a second ball onto the pitch to express his disapproval of the referee's performance in last weekend's defeat against Hoffenheim.
German outlet Bild reports that Frankfurt plan to replace Glasner with former Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmoller, while others speak about RB Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle.
The tabloid adds that Glasner and his present club have agreed to finish the season together despite their disagreements and part ways after the German Cup final against RB Leipzig on June 3.
Despite having won the 2022 UEFA Europa League title, the Austrian is said to have lost the dressing room, as well as having opposing views to sporting director Markus Krosche.
Ten Bundesliga matches without a victory are said to have increased tensions after the coach unsuccessfully demanded new arrivals in the winter break. The club will miss their goal of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League.
After losing ground in the Bundesliga, only a possible Cup win could lead the side to European competition next season, after their last-16 exit in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League against Napoli.
The team's mood suffered from various rumors speaking of key players such as Daichi Kamada and Randal Kolo Muani leaving after the current season.
Glasner recently rejected overtures to extend his contract with Frankfurt, while rumors about offers from other European clubs grew.
He complained about rising expectations and claimed not to have played a poor 2022-23 season, citing progress in the Champions League and German Cup as evidence.
The Eintracht coach spoke about the chance to reach a happy ending in the Cup final. But the club failed to show a rise in confidence in the defeat against Hoffenheim, as the team appeared exhausted after an energy-sapping season.
With Glasner banned for next weekend's derby against Mainz, the Eagles remain traveling on a bumpy road. ■
