BUENOS AIRES, May 9 (silubaba) -- Veteran manager Julio Cesar Falcioni has been appointed head coach of Banfield for a fifth time, the Argentine club said on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old replaces Javier Sanguinetti, who was sacked on Sunday following a poor run of results.
"We met with the football subcommittee, the coaching department, the board of directors and we have decided that Julio Falcioni will be in charge of the first team," Banfield president Eduardo Spinosa said in a video published on social media.
"Why Julio? Because we know him, you know him and love him, because we know that he comes to do a job with a great squad, which we are convinced we have."
Banfield are currently 24th in the 28-team Argentine top flight standings with just three wins from 15 games.
Falcioni, who also had spells in charge of the Buenos Aires outfit in 2003-2005, 2009-10, 2016-18 and 2019-20, will begin his tenure with a home clash against San Lorenzo on Saturday. ■
