Lukaku boosts Inter's victory over Sassuolo-silubaba news

ROME, May 13 (silubaba) -- Inter Milan built on their mid-week Champions League victory as they saw off Sassuolo 4-2 on Saturday at San Siro with birthday boy Romelu Lukaku bagging a brace.

Inter Milan entered Saturday's game with six consecutive wins on all fronts including a convincing 2-0 triumph over intercity rivals AC Milan in the first leg of Champions League semifinals.

Both Inter and Sassuolo had goals wiped out due to offside in the opening minutes, but the home side eventually put their noses ahead before the interval when Lukaku, who celebrated his 30th birthday on the same day, gathered the ball on the edge of the box, resisting a challenge before releasing a missile into the net.

Inter doubled the lead in the 55th minute with a stroke of luck when Raoul Bellanova's attempt was accidentally prodded into the net by Ruan Tressoldi, minutes before Lautaro Martinez extended the lead with a deflected strike.

With three-goal margin, Inter were error-prone as Sassuolo pulled two goals back through two headers from Matheus Henrique and Davide Frattesi.

As the away side breathed a life back, Lukaku dented their hopes as the Belgian sealed the game with an angle drive.

The win lifted Inter to the third place with 66 points, pushing Lazio to fourth.

Elsewhere, AC Milan suffered another fortune as they were stunned by relegation battlers Spezia 2-0, with Sandro Tonali and Brahim Diaz's attempts denied by the posts.

Also on Saturday, Salernitana beat Atalanta 1-0 on Antonio Candreva's late winner.
