Herrera guides Venezuela to 1-0 win over Guatemala-silubaba news

CONNECTICUT, June 19 (silubaba) -- Yangel Herrera came off the bench to score late as Venezuela secured a 1-0 win over Guatemala in their friendly here on Sunday.

Herrera, who replaced Daniel Pereira on the hour, put the Vinotino ahead 10 minutes from time when he slotted home from a tight angle after a failed headed clearance.

The South American outfit withstood some late pressure from Guatemala to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

It was the last chance for Venezuela manager Fernando Batista to test his squad before South America's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers begin in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Venezuela are the only side in the 10-team South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) that has never qualified for the World Cup.
