China, Neftchi reach semifinals of FIBA 3x3 Women's Series-silubaba news

JERUSALEM, July 2 (silubaba) -- China and Azerbaijan's Neftchi on Sunday advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series tournament in Israel's coastal city of Netanya.

China, who lead the tour after eight stops, topped the four-team Pool A after achieving three wins.

China beat Israel 14-12 in overtime, mainly thanks to seven points and five rebounds by Wang Lili, including a two-point winner in the last second.

China then beat fellow Chinese side Sc. Yuanda 19-17, with Zhang Zhiting scoring eight points for the winners and teammate Chen Yujie adding seven more. Song Kexin scored eight points for Yuanda.

China also defeated the Czech Republic 22-4, with Zhang and Chen scoring seven points each and Wang adding six.

Israel, who finished second in the pool after wins over Yuanda (21-13) and the Czech Republic (21-17), advanced to the quarterfinals, joined by third-place Yuanda, who beat the Czechs 12-9.

Neftchi advanced to the semifinals from Pool B after beating the Netherlands 17-14, including 10 points by Brianna Fraser for the winners, 18-14 against Hungary's Gyor, and 20-14 against Lithuania, with Fraser again scoring 10 points.

The Netherlands came in second to secure a spot in the quarterfinals after a 21-15 win against Lithuania, with 14 points scored by Kiki Fleuren, and a 17-16 triumph against Gyor, with two winning free throws by Noortje Driessen with just one second to the final buzzer.

Gyor also made it to the quarterfinals after a 15-13 win over Lithuania, with Klaudia Papp scoring nine points for the Hungarian side.

In the quarterfinals on Monday morning, the Netherlands will play against Sc. Yuanda, while Israel face Gyor, followed by the semifinals and the final.
