Netfchi win FIBA 3x3 Women's Series tournament in Israel-silubaba news

JERUSALEM, July 3 (silubaba) -- Azerbaijan's Neftchi on Monday won the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series tournament in the Israeli city of Netanya.

In the final game at the Sportec Yahalom complex, Neftchi beat China 16-12 thanks to strong defense, with seven points from Arica Carter coming alongside six more from Brianna Fraser, who was crowned tournament MVP. Ji Yuanwan scored a team-high four points for China.

Earlier in the semifinals, China had overcome fellow Chinese side Sc. Yuanda 21-13, thanks to nine points from Wang Lili, and a contribution of seven points and 10 rebounds from Zhang Zhiting. Song Kexin top-scored for Yuanda with seven points.

In the second semifinal, Neftchi had defeated hosts Israel 19-15. Alexandra Mollenhauer and Carter scored seven points each for Neftchi, while Alyssa Baron contributed a game-high eight points alongside 10 rebounds for Israel.

In the quarterfinals earlier in the evening, Yuanda had overcome the Netherlands 15-7 and Israel beat Hungary's Gyor 20-19, while China and Neftchi had advanced directly to the semifinals after finishing first in the pool stage.

China increased their margin at the top of the overall standings, with 80 additional points, reaching a total of 510 points after nine stops out of 23.

Sc. Yuanda, who finished fourth in the Israeli tournament, gained 60 more points on the way to a total of 366 in second place overall.

The next stop of the series is in Fribourg, Switzerland, starting on Thursday.
