RIO DE JANEIRO, July 3 (silubaba) -- Colombian forward Yony Gonzalez and Uruguayan midfielder Leo Fernandez are close to joining Fluminense for the rest of the South American football season, according to local media reports.
Both players are in advanced conversations with the Brazilian club and underwent a medical in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, according to the Globo news portal.
Gonzalez is a free agent after parting ways with Portuguese side Portimonense last month. The 28-year-old had a successful loan spell with the club in 2019 when he scored nine goals and provided five assists across all competitions.
Fernandez, meanwhile, is set to join on loan from Mexican side Toluca and is seen as a perfect midfield partner for veteran playmaker Paulo Henrique Ganso.
Fluminense are currently sixth in Brazil's 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings and eased into the Copa Libertadores last 16 by finishing top of their group last week. ■
