RIO DE JANEIRO, July 11 (silubaba) -- Felipe Augusto scored late as Brazilian giants Corinthians showed their Copa Sudamericana title credentials with a 1-0 home win over Peru's Universitario on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old latched onto Renato Augusto's cross by turning and, in the same motion, blasting a first-time shot into the top-left corner.
Universitario were reduced to 10-men in the 73rd minute when Alex Valera was shown a straight red card for hacking down Rafael Ramos.
The return fixture will be played in Lima on July 18 with the winner progressing to the round of 16.
In Santiago, Leonardo Gil scored two second-half goals as Colo-Colo edged to a 2-1 home win over America Mineiro. Ale Agea was on target for the Brazilian outfit.
In Wednesday's only other Copa Sudamericana fixture, Ecuadorian Barcelona SC won 2-1 at home to Estudiantes. ■
