Thousands take part in 2023 Hervis Balaton Crossing-silubaba news

BUDAPEST, July 15 (silubaba) -- In the picturesque backdrop of Hungary's Lake Balaton, thousands of participants gathered on a warm sunny Saturday to take part in the highly anticipated 2023 Hervis Balaton Crossing.

Over four thousand individuals embarked on the challenging Zamardi-Tihany-Zamardi route, showcasing their determination and passion for water sports.

The Hervis Balaton Crossing has become synonymous with summer, water activities, and leisure sports. Offering a unique opportunity to explore Central Europe's largest lake, this edition of the event featured an eight-kilometer course accompanied by a captivating turn in the charming Tihany.

A diverse range of participants eagerly lined up at the starting line, with approximately 2,300 units completing the challenging distance across nine different categories, including kayak, canoe and SUP (Stand Up Paddling).

Alongside recreational paddlers, esteemed figures from the world of sports graced the event, such as three-time Olympic champion Botond Storcz. And 23 years later, the legendary Sydney Olympic silver medalist kayaking pair, Katalin Kovacs and Szilvia Szabo, reunited to demonstrate their enduring prowess on the sparkling Lake Balaton.

The popular event of paddling across Lake Balaton started in 2018, and since, a total of more than 15,000 people have taken part, according to the organizers.
