Australian swimmer Titmus breaks women’s 400m free world record-silubaba news

FUKUOKA, Japan, July 23 (silubaba) -- Australia's Arianne Titmus won the women's 400 meters freestyle title with a new world record at the World Aquatics Championships here on Sunday.

Titmus, the Olympic gold medalist in both 200m and 400m freestyle, clocked three minutes 55.38 seconds for a comfortable victory, breaking the previous world mark of 3:56.08 set by Canada's Summer McIntosh in March this year.

American Katie Ledecky, who won three gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and five gold medals in last year's Budapest worlds, finished second in 3:58.73.

The bronze went to Erika Fairweather of New Zealand, who touched home in 3:59.59.

McIntosh finished fourth in 3:59.94 and China's Li Bingjie fifth in 4:01.65.
