FUKUOKA, July 23 (silubaba) -- Australia's Samuel Short clinched the men's 400m freestyle gold at the World Aquatics Championships here on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Australian national champion earned the first indoor swimming gold medal of the Fukuoka championships, clocking in at three minutes and 40.68 seconds.
Reigning Olympic champion Ahed Hafnaoui of Tunisia narrowly missed the top spot, finishing second by only 0.02 seconds. Germany's Lukas Martens, the silver medalist at last year's Budapest championships, took bronze with a time of 3:42.20. ■
