Boca Juniors extend winning run in Argentine top flight-silubaba news

BUENOS AIRES, July 24 (silubaba) -- Boca Juniors continued their late-season recovery with a 2-1 home victory over Newell's Old Boys in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.

Lucas Hoyos gifted the hosts the lead with an own goal and Cristian Medina doubled the advantage by heading home after Valentin Barco's cross just after halftime.

Jorge Recalde gave the visitors a glimmer of hope with a long-range strike in the 92nd minute but Boca survived to secure their fourth straight victory.

The Buenos Aires giants are now eighth in the 28-team standings and are unbeaten in their last seven outings across all competitions. Newell's are 13th with 34 points from 26 matches.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Monday, Velez Sarsfield were held to a goalless home draw by Union Santa Fe, Gimnasia drew 2-2 at Talleres Cordoba, Banfield won 2-0 at home to Godoy Cruz and Racing Club secured a 3-1 home win over Central Cordoba.
