FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2021 Division A schedule confirmed

BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The schedule for the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2021 Division A has been confirmed, with the competition to be held in Amman, Jordan between September 27 and October 3.

Group phase matches will be played from September 27 to 29, with the eight participating teams separated into two groups according to the final standings of the 2019 edition of the Asian tournament in Bengaluru, India.

Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and India are placed in Group A, while Group B features China, Australia, Chinese Taipei and the Philippines.

Tokyo 2020 silver medalists Japan will kick off the Division A games against India on September 27.

China and Australia will put on their highly anticipated rematch on September 29. The two teams have faced each other in major competitions three times over the past three years, with the most recent encounter taking place in the group stage of the Tokyo Olympic Games, where China won 76-74.

The final phase matches will start on September 30, as the two qualifiers for the semifinals will be decided between the teams that finish second and third in the group phase. The seventh place classification game will be played between the bottom-ranked teams of each group.

The semifinals will be played on October 2, and the final on October 3.
