CHENGDU, July 29 (silubaba) -- After their victory over the United States, Italy's men's water polo coach Daniele Bettini is more confident of his team's goal of title defense.
"We were the champions at the last FISU World University Games, and we want to be the champions again," Bettini said.
Italy, one of powerhouses in the sport, defeated last edition's runners-up U.S. 13-11 at Modern Pentathlon Center Swimming and Fencing Hall on Thursday.
"It was a very good match between two powerful teams. I hope my team could grow and become better," Bettini noted.
Bettini had conducted a two-week training for his team in Italy ahead of the Universiade. "My players are all top players from different teams in the Italian league. Some of them had also participated in the last Universiade," said the coach.
The men's water polo final will be played on August 8, the last competition day of the tournament. ■
