Chengdu Universiade | Portugal's Ribeiro defeats Estonia's Narmont in marathon tennis duel-silubaba news

CHENGDU, July 29 (silubaba) -- After a lengthy three hours and 40 minutes, Portugal's Maria Ribeiro triumphed over Estonia's Helena Narmont 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the women's singles first round tennis match at the Chengdu Universiade here on Saturday.

Played at Sichuan Chuantou International Tennis Center, Narmont clinched the opening game after 17 tense minutes, setting the tone for the grueling showdown that ensued.

Despite losing the first set 6-4, Ribeiro managed to reverse the momentum, ultimately overcoming Narmont in the fiercely contested duel.

"This is the longest game I have ever played," said Ribeiro.

Ribeiro will next face China's No. 10 seed, Guo Hanyu.
