CHENGDU, July 31 (silubaba) -- Both India and South Korea clinched two golds each in the archery compound and recurve individual finals respectively at the 31st FISU World University Games here on Monday.
In the women's compound final, American Alyssa Sturgill made three perfect 10s. However, India's Kaur Avneet displayed remarkable consistency in the following sets, securing four 29s to level the score at 144-144.
In the final round, Avneet extended her exemplary performance, firing double 10s and surpassing Sturgill's two 8s.
On the men's side, India's Sangampreet Bisla exhibited his expertise by shooting 14 10s, concluding a 149-147 triumph.
"Maintaining focus on my shots, I simply endeavored to give today's competition my best. Team spirit and consistent practice played a crucial role in my victory," Bisla stated.
In the women's recurve final, after trailing by one point in the first set, South Korea's Choi Mi-sun eclipsed Kazakhstan's Diana Tursunbek with scores of 29-27, 29-27, and 27-26 in the subsequent three sets, clinching the win.
"This marks my fourth Universiade participation but my inaugural gold medal win, signifying a successful conclusion to my Universiade journey," Choi expressed.
In the men's final, Choi's compatriot, Seo Min-gi, overpowered Tokyo Olympic men's team bronze medalist Kawata Yuki with a decisive 6-0. ■
