CHENGDU, Aug. 1 (silubaba) -- Chinese Olympic champion Zhang Yufei kicked off her Chengdu Universiade campaign in flying style on Tuesday and has her sights set on breaking more records in the future.
Zhang, who won the women's 200m butterfly and 4x200m freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympic Games, secured the 100m butterfly world title and finished second in an Asian record time of 25.05 seconds in the 50m butterfly at the just-ended World Aquatics Championships.
During the first day of the Chengdu Universiade swimming competition, Zhang completed the semifinals of the women's 50m butterfly with a time of 25.29 seconds. Later, she and her teammates won the 4x100m freestyle relay in an impressive time of three minutes and 37.51 seconds.
"I see the Chengdu FISU World University Games as an opportunity to test my abilities, and I hope to surpass my own record set in the World Championships again at the Asian Games (in Hangzhou)," said Zhang.
In addition to Tuesday's events, Zhang is set to compete in seven more events as part of her Chengdu Universiade campaign. She expressed her readiness for more challenges and vowed to give her best performance in the tournament. ■
