Chinese football club official given eight-month stadium ban for referee assault-silubaba news

BEIJING, Aug. 2 (silubaba) -- A Chinese football club official has been given an eight-month stadium ban by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for physically assaulting a match referee.

Duan Xin, who slapped the referee in the face during a Chinese second-tier league game last Sunday, was also fined 150,000 yuan (about 20,891 U.S. dollars), the CFA said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Duan Xin verbally abused the referee in protest of the latter's decisions. He struck the referee in the face after being dismissed," the statement read.

Duan Xin had been suspended from his role as team leader, the Liaoning Shenyang City club said last Tuesday.

Duan had offered a public apology last Monday, saying he should have obeyed the referee's decisions unconditionally.

"As the culprit, I have brought Chinese football into disrepute. I did wrong," he said in a statement posted on the Shenyang club's social media account.

Duan added that he has recognized the consequences of the matter and was ready to accept any punishment.
