Chengdu Universiade | Kaylin Hsieh wins women’s epee individual title-silubaba news

CHENGDU, Aug. 2 (silubaba) -- Kaylin Hsieh of Hong Kong, China claimed the title of women's epee individual at the Chengdu Universiade here on Wednesday.

Italy's Sara Maria Kowalczyk won the silver while Catherine Danuta Nixon of the United States and Japan's Tamaki Terayama shared the bronze.

"If everyone believes in me, I have to believe in myself and things will become possible. I just focused on each touch and each point. I was pretty overwhelmed by the support that I have here in Chengdu, not only from my teammates but also like the audience here. It's my first time in FISU, so I really appreciate it," said Hsieh.

Elsewhere, South Korea's Park Sang-won pocketed the gold of men's sabre individual, Gergo Horvath of Hungary settled for the silver. Samuel Jarry of France and Tamon Yoshida of Japan took the bronzes.

The fencing competition will run until August 7, with a total of 12 gold medals to be awarded in individual and team events.
