Jamaica moves into round of 16 at Women's World Cup-silubaba news

MELBOURNE, Aug. 2 (silubaba) -- Jamaica drew Brazil 0-0 in the last group match and advanced to the round of 16 in the Women's World Cup here on Wednesday.

The draw was enough for Jamaica to progress into the knockout stage for the first time.

Playing with trademark defensive might, Jamaica continually frustrated Brazil who struggled to create clear opportunities despite legendary striker Marta Vieira da Silva being recalled into the starting line-up.

It was a disappointing exit for Brazil, who finished with three points as a first World Cup title remains elusive.

"Jamaica did a good job and we weren't able to make many chances. When you could not break the defence, you get a little bit stressed. And if you get stressed, it was a little bit slow and you lose a little bit of the courage," Brazil coach Pia Sundhage said in the press conference.
