Chengdu Universiade | Nepalese player says Chinese paddlers are awe-inspiring-silubaba news

CHENGDU, Aug. 2 (silubaba) -- Nepalese player Nyachhyon Kushal admitted that Chinese table tennis players are hard to beat and awe-inspiring after losing to a Chinese athlete in just 15 minutes at the 31st FISU World University Games.

"China is so powerful and they almost cannot be defeated," said Kushal, who lost to China's Man Pai 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 in the men's singles opening round on Monday.

"As we all know, China has long been the powerhouse in table tennis. When I really have the chance to play against them, I know what it means," Kushal added.

He said he learned a lot from his opponent, such as focusing on the game and adjusting his mentality during the competition.

Kushal is a student from Nepal's Tribhuvan University. He has always maintained a strong love for table tennis since he started practicing the sport during his childhood.

"When I was a kid, I saw the senior students play table tennis, which I thought was wonderful, then I asked them for instructions and practiced with them day and night," he said.

"I often went out to play table tennis with my companions for six to seven hours each time, and went home very late," he added.

It's been the first time for Kushal to visit China, and he cherished the chance. "It was my first time to participate in the Universiade and to play against China's talented paddlers is amazing," he said, adding that although he lost the match, he was still very happy.

Before coming to Chengdu, Kushal and his teammates had learned a lot through online information about the historic city.

"Over the past days, my teammates and I have tried local food and cultural activities at the Universiade Village where the whole participants live, but because of the competition, we stil have not had time to go to the streets of Chengdu for in-depth experience," said Kushal.

"Chengdu is a great city and there are many places I want to visit, but what the most I want to do is to see the world-famous pandas," he added.
