Palmeiras beat Atletico Mineiro to eye Copa Libertadores last eight-silubaba news

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 2 (silubaba) -- A first-half strike from Raphael Veiga gave Palmeiras a 1-0 away win over Atletico Mineiro in the first leg of their all-Brazilian Copa Libertadores round of 16 clash on Wednesday.

Veiga put the visitors ahead by thumping a first-time volley from outside the 18-yard box into the bottom left corner at the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.

The return leg will be played at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Argentine giants Boca Juniors only managed a goalless draw against Nacional in Uruguayan capital Montevideo.

Also on Wednesday, Colombian side Deportivo Pereira edged to a 1-0 home win over Ecuador's Independiente del Valle.
