ISTANBUL, Aug. 4 (silubaba) -- Members of the Turkish sports delegation praised the excellent atmosphere of friendship and peace at the ongoing Chengdu Universiade.
"First of all, we had a very warm welcome on our arrival," Ozge Yilmaz, a table tennis player, spoke of the delegation's reception at the Universiade.
"Everybody is friendly and sincere, and they are all very amicable, and I didn't expect to encounter such a beautiful atmosphere," she continued, describing the bond they established with the Chinese authorities and volunteers.
Good friendships were also forged among the athletes, according to Yilmaz, who noted, "Every time we met athletes from different countries and regions, we exchanged pins. Sometimes we exchange T-shirts. It is a beautiful fusion."
The athlete said everyone was taking lots of selfies with each other to immortalize the moment.
Ozge also welcomed the strong interest the Chinese people showed in the Games, saying, "I have never played a match with so many spectators before. And when we went out, everyone tried to help the athletes and delegations with everything," she noted.
Expressing her gratitude, Yilmaz said, "When we arrived where we would stay, everything was thought up to the finest detail. We found everything in our rooms - food, nuts, and many gifts. I never expected them to think so much about the details. We were delighted by their kindness."
Muhammed Mustafa Koc, a judo team player, spoke of the friendships and cultural exchanges forged at the Games, saying, "I had the opportunity to meet and bond with many different people. In games like this, you have friends not only from your sports but also from others. Yes, we have met new cultures."
"Your social network expands; at the very least, this interaction changes your perspective on people. You detect different points of view instead of always being in a certain comfort zone. So you understand how people look at life," stated Koc.
Nazmi Saritas, the judo team's coach, praised the close attention of the volunteers to the athletes and delegations, saying, "There were many officials in the opening ceremony and all the sports halls where the university games were held. Everyone was making an effort for the smooth running of the organization. Everyone was doing their duty."
"I left there with good feelings. Everyone was very friendly, everyone there was very helpful, and there were friends who were very interested in us. I thank them all. It was a good experience for us." ■
