Chinese second-tier club demands referees punished for gross mistake-silubaba news

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (silubaba) -- Chinese second-tier league club Wuxi Wugo on Monday issued a statement urging the Chinese Football Association to punish the referees who they claimed made a gross mistake in refusing to give them a goal in a game on Saturday.

The Wuxi side insisted that their player had scored a goal in the 48th minute of the game against Shanghai Jiading Huilong when his shot hit the bar and bounced into the net.

But the referee simply waved the game on, signaling no goal was scored.

The referee, assistant referees and the fourth official, without the help of VAR, ignored the argument from a Wuxi official who proved that the ball had crossed the goal-line with a video from his mobile phone, the Wuxi club said.

"This is an outrageous mistake and we seriously question the capabilities of the refereeing team," Wuxi Wugo wrote in their statement.

The Wuxi club said the referee's decision affected the play and result of the game, which they lost 2-1.
