WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (silubaba) -- Nashville reached the Leagues Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday by beating Mexican giants Club America 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

After a goalless first half, the game sprung to life in the second as Diego Valdes and Julian Quinones found the net for the Liga MX outfit while Walker Zimmerman and Sam Surridge were on target for the Major League Soccer franchise.

Philadelphia and Minnesota also progressed to the competition's last eight by defeating New York Red Bulls and Toluca, respectively, on penalties.
