KABUL, Aug. 21 (silubaba) -- The Afghan caretaker government will support the country's athletes in national and international competitions, local media quoted a sports official as saying.
"We promise all athletes that we will support them. We will provide them with facilities and we will pay a lot of attention to them," Ahmadullah Wassiq, acting head of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, told TOLOnews Sunday evening.
The media outlet added that athletes also called on authorities to give them either financial or technical support for preparation for international competitions.
According to a list from the directorate's physical education office, a total of 17 national sports teams, including football, volleyball, cricket and wushu, will participate in the 19th Asian Games to be held in September in east China's Hangzhou city. ■
