Canada thrashes Lebanon in FIBA World Cup-silubaba news

JAKARTA, Aug. 27 (silubaba) -- With nine players finishing in double digits, Canada claimed a blowout 128-73 victory over Lebanon in the FIBA World Cup here on Sunday.

Canada set a FIBA Basketball World Cup single-game record of 44 assists, leading them to an astonishing 71 shooting percentage from the field, making 18 of 30 from the three-point line.

"We played together and shared the basketball. 43 assists to 15 turnovers is a record in the World Cup. It just shows that sharing is caring and these guys were ready to play the right way, play with a pass," said Canada head coach Jordi Fernandez.

Led by Trae Bell-Haynes, who scored 15 points, shooting 5 of 6 from downtown, Canada put their opponents on the ropes, as they made consecutive shots in the transitions in the first half.

Forcing their opponents to make mistakes, Canada relied on fast breaks to make easy shots, and soon turned the game into a rout.

"They were punishing us for any mistake. You can see that they have 41 points from our turnovers," rued Lebanon head coach Jad El Hajj.

Canada next faces Latvia on Tuesday, while Lebanon takes on France.
