RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 28 (silubaba) -- Former Spain international striker Diego Costa struck twice as leaders Botafogo cruised to a 3-0 home win over Bahia in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Costa opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he received a pass from Victor Sa before his shot deflected into the net off goalkeeper Marcos Felipe.
Brazil-born Costa doubled the advantage just after halftime with a bullet header following Gabriel Pires' cross from the left flank.
The Rio de Janeiro side made it 3-0 through Luis Henrique, who ran onto Hugo's perfectly weighted through ball and then rounded Felipe to roll the ball into an empty net.
The result means Botafogo maintain an 11-point lead over second-placed Palmeiras while Bahia are 16th in the 20-team standings, 30 points off the pace.
