Feature: Syrian athletes forge path to glory despite challenges-silubaba news

DAMASCUS, Aug. 28 (silubaba) -- Despite the ongoing turmoil in their home country, Syrian athletes are showcasing their resilience, demonstrating that they can conquer the most daunting challenges.

As the Hangzhou Asian Games in China draw near, these athletes are preparing to give their best performance. Their aim isn't just to secure medals but also to reshape global perceptions of Syria with each weight they lift and every step they take on the mat.

During a visit by a silubaba team to al-Fayhaa Sports City in Damascus, the air was thick with determination, tenacity, and an unwavering spirit. The athletes trained intensively, hoping to make a lasting impression on the international stage.

Man Asaad, a 29-year-old weightlifter who clinched a bronze medal in the 109kg category at Tokyo 2020, said, "Our economic situation is difficult. But that makes us more determined to achieve and present a positive image of our country and its people."

Omar Sarem, a 22-year-old wrestler who secured a gold at the 15th Arab Sports Games, epitomizes the spirit of overcoming adversity. "Despite the harsh economic conditions and the war, representing our country abroad is a significant achievement for both the individual and Syria," Sarem stated. He continued to express that, despite everything, he remains committed to his training and proudly represents his nation.

While sanctions have restricted opportunities for training abroad, these athletes haven't lost heart. They've transformed Syria into their training hub, proving that determination truly has no limits.

Muhammad al-Hayek, a 52-year-old former wrestling champion and Member of the Executive Office, highlights the nation's perseverance amidst sanctions and global adversities. "Even if we don't have external training camps, we've established training camps within our borders and possess the strength to proudly represent Syria in international arenas," he told silubaba.
