HANGZHOU, Sept. 27 (silubaba) -- Japan dominated track cycling at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Wednesday, securing all three gold medals on offer.
In the men's team pursuit final, the Japanese quartet of Shoi Matsuda, Kazushige Kuboki, Eiya Hashimoto and Naoki Kojima combined to win with a time of 3 minutes and 52.757 seconds, bettering the previous Games record of 3 minutes and 56.247 seconds set by South Korea in 2018.
China secured the silver medal, while South Korea clinched the bronze with a significant lead over Hong Kong, China.
"Our time at the Asian Games is great. Riders have one goal in our mind and that's the Paris 2024," said Japan's Hashimoto.
During the women's team pursuit final, Japan managed to stage a dramatic comeback in the final moment, securing the gold medal. China finished closely behind, and Hong Kong of China earned themselves the bronze medal.
"We have prepared for this competition at a training camp in Japan, for 300 days we have been training. My teammates were very nervous before the race, and I'm so happy we could win today," said Japanese cyclist Yumi Kajihara.
The women's keirin final featured a fierce competition.
Japan's Mina Sato snatched the title, with China's Wang Lijuan and Zhang Linyin taking home the silver and bronze medals respectively. ■
