Former Tsinghua Unigroup chairman stands trial for corruption-silubaba news

CHANGCHUN, Sept. 28 (silubaba) -- Zhao Weiguo, former board chairman of China's Tsinghua Unigroup, stood trial for corruption and other suspected offenses at a court in northeast China's Jilin Province on Thursday.

Zhao was also charged with illegal profit-seeking and undermining the interests of the listed company, which have resulted in serious economic losses including the embezzlement of national assets worth more than 470 million yuan (about 65.5 million U.S. dollars), according to the procuratorate.

At the court, the prosecutors presented their evidence, which the defendant and his lawyers cross-examined. Zhao pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.

A verdict will be announced in due course.
