HANGZHOU, Oct. 2 (silubaba) -- Japan clinched the mixed relay gold medal in triathlon at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Monday, marking their third consecutive victory in this event following triumphs at Incheon 2014 and Jakarta 2018.
This win also marks the third gold from as many events won by Japan in this Asiad, as they previously secured the men's and women's individual titles.
In Monday's mixed relay, Japan showcased remarkable teamwork and consistent performance, completing the race in a time of one hour, 26 minutes, and 21 seconds. China came in second with a time of one hour, 27 minutes, and 48 seconds, while Hong Kong, China, clinched the bronze.
"I was a bit asthmatic, but I was fighting for the team today, so it was a special moment. I gave it everything and it was a good leg," said Kenji Nener. "The Japanese team did very well and we are all happy with the performance."
The race included four athletes in each of the 12 teams, comprising two men and two women, with each athlete covering a 0.3-kilometer swim, a 6.67-kilometer bike ride, and a 1.86-kilometer run. ■
