Zheng, Zhu set up all-Chinese semi in Zhuhai WTA Elite Trophy-silubaba news

ZHUHAI, China, Oct. 27 (silubaba) -- No. 7 seed Zheng Qinwen of China overcame Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia in three sets to reach the last four of the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai on Friday, setting up an all-Chinese semifinal with Zhu Lin.

Zheng broke Ostapenko in the first game and kept her advantage to win the first set 6-4. The 21-year-old suddenly lost her power as she surrendered five straight games to drop her second set 6-1. She won the last four games to earn a 6-2 victory in the final set.

"I lost my concentration in the second set, but I am very happy to come back strong in the decider," Zheng said after the match.

Wildcarder Zhu Lin topped her group as a result of a stunning comeback victory for Veronika Kudermetova of Russia against her compatriot Liudmila Samsonova.

Kudermetova saved two match points in a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win, denying Samsonova the semifinal berth.

No. 8 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia beat No. 9 seed Caroline Garcia 6-1, 7-6 (4) to join No. 6 seed Daria Kasatkina in the other semifinal.
