RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 5 (silubaba) -- Pedro and Luiz Araujo scored either side of halftime as Flamengo kept their title hopes alive with a 2-0 away win over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Pedro opened the scoring just before halftime with a low finish after combining with former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea defender Filipe Luis.
Araujo doubled the advantage three minutes from time with a left-footed shot from 12-yards following an Ayrton Lucas pass.
The result leaves Flamengo with 53 points from 31 outings, six points behind leaders Botafogo, who have a game in hand. Fortaleza are ninth in the 20-team standings with 42 points.
Meanwhile, Bragantino also remained in the title race after a first-half strike from attacking midfielder Helinho gave them a 1-0 home win over Corinthians.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Internacional won 2-1 at Cruzeiro and Coritiba were held to a goalless home draw by Goias. ■
