Beijing advances to Chinese women’s volleyball super league semis

BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Beijing swept Liaoning 3-0 here on Tuesday to win the best-of-three quarterfinals 2-1 of the Chinese women's volleyball super league.

With the series tied at 1-1 after the first two matches, Anna Lazareva of Russia scored 24 points and Katarina Lazovic of Serbia added 14 as Beijing beat Liaoning 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21 in Game 3, and will meet Shanghai in the best-of-three semifinals.

Liaoning was leading 22-20 before Beijing had a 5-0 run to clinch the opening set.

After Beijing easily took the second set, Liaoning fought hard to tie it at 20-all in the third set, only to find Beijing run off five of the last six points to wrap up the match in 70 minutes.

Brankica Mihajlovic of Serbia made 12 kills in 36 attempts to lead Liaoning with 13 points.
