Fujian edges Jiangsu, Beijing ends Qingdao's CBA winning streak

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Eugene German and Thon Maker combined for 42 points to help the Fujian Sturgeons defeat the Jiangsu Dragons 101-99, while the Beijing Ducks snapped the four-game winning streak of the Qingdao Eagles with a 92-82 victory at home in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Thursday.

Fujian pocketed 36 points in the first quarter to build a 13-point advantage. Although Cui Xiaolong led Jiangsu to close the gap during the rest of the game, Jiangsu still failed to overturn the momentum in the end.

Cui had a team-high 21 points and dished out 10 assists, while his teammate Liu Zhixuan and Ma Jianhao contributed 18 points respectively.

Lyu Junhu of Qingdao hit 3 three-pointers after the tip-off against Beijing. The visiting team entered half time five points ahead. However, Beijing started the second half with a 14-2 run to turn around and enlarged its lead in the final quarter.

Qingdao's Wang Ruize got a game-high 19 points, and Zeng Fanbo scored 17 points for Beijing.

"The guys really played with a lot of efforts and tough defense, because Qingdao used to move the ball very quick and shoot three-pointers. We missed some open shots today, but it was important that everyone was there to grab rebounds," said Beijing's head coach Giulio Griccioli.
